Human rights organisations appeal European Court of Human Rights ruling on bulk surveillance

Liberty, Privacy International and the American Civil Liberties Union argue that any form of mass spying is in breach of rights to privacy and freedom of expression

A number of civil rights and privacy organisations have appealed a European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) ruling from September on the UK’s old bulk interception regime. The ruling said that oversight was insufficient and violated privacy rights. However, the ruling did not that bulk interception was unlawful itself.
